Sister’s Uptown Bookstore is the only black women owned bookstore in New York City. We worked with Neighborhoods Now and Community League of The Heights to identify Sister’s Uptown Bookstore as a small retail business in need of outdoor intervention.
Project Brief
The Sister’s Bookstore needed a simple store front renovation that created more permanent outdoor seating and shelving in the two feet between the storefront and the metal locking grate.
Design Approach
The finished design is a cleaned up storefront, with a permanent bench / book shelf that creates an outdoor seating area with books free for the public to take.
