Open Restaurants Guide

Open Source

Design Advocates saw the potential of the Open Restaurants program in permanently changing the architecture of the street. However, there were key structural concerns that needed to be addressed to ensure not only safety, but also the longevity of the program. D/A put together an easy to understand, illustrated guide to the DOT’s outdoor dining requirements, outlining vehicular and COVID safety, code restrictions, structural integrity, ADA compliance, winterization, and customer comfort.

The guide addressed three fundamental aspects of safety and comfort: Traffic and roadway safety, structural stability given the coming change of seasons, and heating and enclosure.
